The big-box stores are fine. These keep your money in Central Ohio - homegrown shops where the staff know the products because they use them, covering everything from everyday food to gear, treats, and the odd critter.

2830 Fishinger Rd, Upper Arlington, and stores all over town • An honorable mention with an asterisk: these were PetPeople, born right here in Columbus in the '90s, until Memphis-based Hollywood Feed bought the hometown chain in 2022. The ownership left town; the stores, the staff, and the healthy-food focus stayed.
